Obviously, I've had some techincal difficulties with editing over the past couple of weeks, but they seem to be on their way to being fixed. I'm definitely learning more and more each time I shoot and edit and actually wish we had more time with this slice so that I could figure things out even further. I liked working on the campus event assignment, but as we discussed in class, I really didn't like how limited Windows Movie Maker is. Even though it is a good starting point, I would have liked to try to split the audio and video so that we could have had the audio of the interview going with the video of the action.
The other thing I've had a hard time with is the height of the tripod I've been using. As insignificant as they may seem, I think my interview shots may have been more successful if I had a slightly more advanced tripod to work with.
Overall though, I've had a great experience so far in this class, even with the constant technical problems. I've dealt with Clint only about two times in my almost four years here, but in the past few weeks he's become my new best friend. Tomorrow morning I have to put a couple finishing touches on my campus event assignment, since I was kicked out of the lab yesterday and today becuase they had class there. But I will deifnitely be posting that in the morning.

WHNPA Contest
I learned a lot more at the WHNPA Contest than I actually expected to. I was expecting to sit inside an auditorium with dozens of other people just watching the videos and then finding out which videos won. But having the opportunity to sit with three editors, who discussed the positives and negatives of each video with each other and sometimes even stopped to explain it to us was a great opportunity.
Having very little experience with video production and editing, I didn’t really know what things like dissolves, nats or sequencing were, let alone notice them within the videos. But after hearing the judges comments on each video, I was beginning to understand what the judges liked, didn’t like and most importantly, that “you don’t really notice the editing when it’s seamless,” as one of the judges pointed out.
Overall, I found most of the stories fairly appealing. My favorite though, was a promo for a National Geographic show. It was unbelievably well put together. Not only was the video and editing great, but it really made me want to see the show when it comes out in April.

About Me
My name is Mariel Brady and I’m a senior print journalism major at the University of Maryland with a minor in sport commerce and culture.
I'm not totally sure what I want to do after gruaduation, but I know I want to stay involved in sports, whether that be in PR or for a news organization. Depending on how things go, law school is also a possibility, but I definitely want to work for a couple years before going back to school.
Since my freshman year, I have worked for Maryland Athletics Media Relations, helping out with football, men’s and women’s basketball and pretty much all of the other sports. I’m also the sports information director for track and field.
I’ve had internships at YES Network and the Baltimore Sun sports department, which were both great experiences. Last spring semester, I studied abroad in London, which was absolutely awesome. While I was there, I interned with Brentford Football Club. They’re in League One, which is kind of the equivalent of a Triple A baseball team. I learned a lot and had so much fun and I am thinking about possibly moving back after graduation.
And that's about it for me. I'm from New York, and have an older brother and two younger sisters. My brother is also involved in sports, he works for the NBA in their global marketing and liscensing department. One of my younger sistsers is a freshman at Boston College and the other is still in high school.
